Crazy ending to a crazy school year

This past week was the last week of school for the kids. The year started out with Carsen breaking his arm. It didn't end that way, but it did end with heavy hearts. First all this week I have been helping Carsen's teacher with some classroom things and moving her room across the hall for next year. She also happens to be a good friend. But on last night as I was getting the kids to bed and I laid down to do some reading, Carsen got up and got a drink only to say that there were police across the street. I had heard one siren earlier, but it was quick so I really didn't think anything of it. Well, I went out to investigate and what I saw broke my heart. Our neighbors house was going up in flames. I have never witnessed a house burning only the aftermath. It was one of the most heartbreaking things I have ever witnessed. Barb and her bird were out in her shop to the side of the house when the fire started. What a blessing that she wasn't asleep. Her husband is a truck driver and is currently on the road and trying really hard to get back. It was a trailer and if you know anything about them they go up very quickly. I love living here because neighbors all came to the rescue and let her cry and scream and just cry. At about 11:30pm I got to lay in my bed and have never been so grateful to have a bed that was mine. The fire was reignited twice since last night. You can imagine that the house is a total loss. My dear sweet children knelt together and prayed while Branden and I took over some chairs and water so that Barb and others could sit until things were figured out. We again said another prayer today that the firefighters could figure out what kept reigniting. We are now a little fearful of the wind and the extreme dry conditions. So today I hug my children a little closer and am so grateful for a house and a bed and my purse. Think about losing your purse in a fire (better then being stolen I guess, but still devastating).

So today was the kids last day of school. I always try to take pictures before we head out, but this morning I was barely awake to get the kids ready to go school. But we made it and they had a good day with their friends eating sweets and signing shirts and "yearbooks". Now to survive the summer. Be afraid, be very afraid.
