Mornings

Some mornings go fairly smoothly, while others not so much. This morning was one of those not so much mornings. Emmy woke up complaining her leg hurt. I told her to walk around and it would wake-up. Well of course that was not what she wanted, so she sat down and said, "I don't want to go to school today." With my other 2 all I would of had to say was get moving you are going to school. This one doesn't work that way. She didn't want to eat the waffles until 7:30 when we are suppose to be heading out the door. I could of told her that she didn't get to eat now, but then the real tantrum would of ensued and that would of lasted longer. Somethings are worth the battle, while others are not. She normally does eat earlier so making a huge deal out of it would only make the contention worse. At 7:40 she was just finishing eating and starting to get dressed. I am sure there are ways to deal with her better, but I am really trying to be a softer mom. Not an easy task with a child who can hold out longer then the mom in stubbornness. She finally got dressed and we headed out at 7:50. Needless-to-say no one died this morning and everyone made it just in time. I long for the quit time on mornings like this. I love that 5 year old, but she can test every fiber of my being. And yes in the back of my mind all I wanted to say was, "Fine stay home then I don't have to fight you to get ready." But I didn't because then I would have to fight her all day long and fine that would be wrong. My hats off to her kindergarten teacher. Funny thing though she is happy as can be once at school and for the most part well behaved.
